JoMerra Watson was born in Chicago, IL.
Graduating with her BFA from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2018, she works primarily in oil paint, acrylic paint, and charcoal. Keeping in mind the lack of representation of black bodies throughout the history of painting, her work currently focuses on the millennial Black woman and the idea that there is an inherent power in choosing to vibrantly display one’s identity in both the physical and fictional spaces that Black bodies occupy.
Accepted into her first juried exhibition in February of 2016, she now has multiple paintings that are apart of the permanent art collection at the University of Missouri. She has since participated in various exhibitions across the midwest, including the exhibitions she organized and curated herself. Now living and working in Dallas, Texas, she plans to pursue a MFA with an intention to contribute to the development of underprivileged young artists through teaching.
